An online art exhibit featuring the works of John Hampshire, Brian Jones, and Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison.

Under the surface of waking life, we have the abstract, unknown territories of the subconscious mind. The world of dreams is a place where the beautiful mysteries and horrors of life can re-emerge. Sometimes these can appear as nightmares and fears, like natural disasters, or as deviations from the laws of physics and logic, like unaided human flight.

Could dreaming be a way for us to subconsciously overcome obstacles, in a parallel journey to our life where we can learn to be brave in the face of any weather? Just as lucid dreams provide a place for the dreamer to mold and manipulate her surroundings and invent details on a whim for a more pleasant experience, perhaps we also have a similar power in waking life.

These works illustrate various dreams over time. They represent differing scenes from the imagined "dreamscape," from the surreal and haunting to the mysteries yet to be understood. As the darkness lifts, the dreamer transforms. In our dreams, we can learn to fly, so when the time comes in waking life, we don’t hesitate to spread our wings.

I have had dreams, and I've had nightmares. I overcame the nightmares because of my dreams. -Dr. Jonas Salk

About the Artists:

Brian Jones

Brian lives in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been a musician, photographer, artist, salesman, business owner, and meditation trainer. He began painting in 1999 and owned a gallery for 7 years in Cleveland’s Little Italy. Recently he is creating interior design concepts for the corporate world. He attributes art to a journey that carries him along like a river.

John Hampshire

John Hampshire lives and maintains a studio in a former church in Troy, NY. He received a BS in Art from Skidmore College in 1994 and MFA in Painting from SUNY Albany in 1997. He currently serves as a Professor of Art at SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, NY. John's work consists of many separate lines, like a labyrinth that creates an image from a distance.

Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison

Robert Parkeharrison and his partner and wife, Shana are known for their surreal fine art photograhy. From the artist statement on their webpage: "Staged images offer endless possibilities for exploration while offering viewers personal interpretation. By allowing viewers to complete the story before them, we allow agency to take hold within them. We develop layers of duality: hope and despair, success and failure, desire and distain, destruction and stewardship. We explore the fragile human condition, and the overarching shadow of environmental destruction. Perhaps the only true hope for our world and our human spirit rests in our ability to imagine."
